Cancelled Flight Claim
Cancelled Flight Compensation Claims
If you booked a flight that either departed from anywhere in the EU or was with a European airline and was cancelled, you may be able to claim compensation under the Denied Boarding Regulation or EU Regulation 261/2004.
The Denied Boarding Regulation applies if you have a confirmed booking, you checked-in on time, leaving at least 45 minutes before your flight was scheduled to depart or if no check-in time was provided.
You’re also eligible to claim compensation for a cancelled flight if you’re departing from an EU airport, or from a non-EU airport and flying into an EU airport on a community carrier (an air carrier with a valid operating licence granted by a Member State in accordance with the provisions of Council Regulation (ECC) No. 2407/92 of 23rd July 1992 licencing of air carriers.)
Passengers travelling with a non-EU based airline flying from a non-EU destination are not privy to the same duty to look after you. If you’re considering claiming compensation for a cancelled flight, you can check the airline’s Condition of Carriage to see what compensation you’re entitled to.
Our experienced and percipient cancelled flight claim solicitors in Manchester are well-versed in helping clients to claim compensation for their cancelled flight. We have settled a plethora of cancelled flight claims successfully, always acting in the best interests of our clients.
What Compensation Am I Entitled To?
If your flight was cancelled, the airline must offer you several options to compensate for any inconvenience. Passengers are entitled to the following:
- The choice of being rerouted either on the next available flight or on an agreed upon date. If a flight departs a short time after and accommodation is required, you’re entitled to ask the airline to pay for your accommodation
- Free transfers to and from the hotel
- Complementary food and drink
- Phone and email access
Some airlines do not automatically volunteer what passengers are entitled to in the event of a cancelled flight. Yet passengers who have a cancelled flight claim are entitled to the above. If your flight has been cancelled, be sure to ask the airline what you are entitled to.
Also, be aware that airlines will only pay for reasonable expenses. Luxury hotels, expensive meals and alcohol are not considered to be reasonable expenses.
Passengers are also entitled to compensation unless:
- Your flight was rerouted, and you arrive at your destination no more than two hours late
- You are informed of your flight cancellation at least two weeks prior to departure
- You are informed of your flight cancellation between on and two weeks prior to departure and your flight was rerouted, helping you to get to your destination no more than four hours late
- The airline can prove that the delay was caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided
How Much Flight Cancellation Compensation Can I Receive?
The amount of compensation you may be entitled to is entirely dependent on the distance your proposed flight was due to travel. Passengers who were due to travel on a short haul flight may receive a modest amount of compensation. Passengers who were due to travel on a long-haul flight may receive more compensation.
Versus Law settles thousands of cancelled flights claims every single year. We do our utmost to make sure that you receive the required compensation. Are you curious about how much compensation you could receive for a cancelled flight? See the table below.
